Our last hours in Curtis Circus had come. Louise helped making glasses and vases at the furnace for Harriet’s market at the weekend. Franca escaped the heat of the workshop and shut herself away in the cold shop with ear plugs, apron and safety glasses, to finish off her pieces - although one piece came back to the furnace for a final hot polish. Matt formed deep incisions into a piece almost entirely through heating and with hardly any use of tools, which turned it into something beautiful - it was very impressive.  It then looked very similar to a tortoise shell.

Matt allowed us some more time at the furnace as well as with the sander and gave us lots of tips.

Louise had set herself a goal to give her piece more edges, which she would have to do in the cold shop, a place where she is rarely seen. But once you have something in your head, you can do it! She sanded her piece from noon until late in the evening. Unfortunately she ran out of time, and will have to continue with the final polish at home.

On Sunday we had to say our goodbyes. The plan was to move on to Adelaide, with a quick stop in Waaga Waaga at the National Glass Gallery. The gallery is in the shape of a slice of cake, with lots of light flooding in and has a great collection of contemporary glass. There was also a Kristie Rea exhibition. After that we were back on the road. We had estimated 2-3 days for the trip, but luckily one truck took us all the way to Adelaide. We arrived at 2am but once again hadn’t managed to organise a place to sleep. The truck driver, Chris, kindly invited us to stay with him and his wife. Everything went so well, we slept in two beautiful beds and today they gave us a lift to the Jam Factory. At the Jam Factory, they were surprised to see us so soon, but it meant that we could watch the team at work. From Wednesday on, we’ll be back on the pipes!
