With slightly lighter rucksacks, we left our ‘base’ at Dan and Lars’ on Monday morning for the last time. First stop was Ole Victor 30km away in Pukeberg/Nybro. After a shower and a meal, we stood at the roundabout in Eriksmala and confidently held up our sign. After ten minutes a red car stopped and Franca said, ‘I think that’s our man’, which wasn’t a joke as it turned out to really be Ole Victor who was coming from Växjö. Franca had previously met him at a Craft Fair in Munich. Ole is Head of the glass courses at the University of Kalmar’s Design Campus at Pukeberg. So on the same day we were given a complete tour of the company Pukeberg and the University, who share some of the same buildings. We were also offered a place to stay for two nights. The next day we spent in Kalmar where there is a glass studio situated in the old city wall. Really bizarre, very muggy and not made for those of a weaker disposition. In the evening we didn’t really know what the next day would look like so we accepted Ole’s offer. This morning he had to be at a meeting with colleagues in Kristianstad and had space for the two of us in the car. This is why at 10.30 we were already in Studio Glashytta in Ahus. Initially the plan was to travel further to Simrishamn via Brösarp, but the apprentice at Ahus stopped us. After we had shocked him with the story of not having anywhere to stay and only the prospect of sleeping in sleeping bags under a tarpaulin (no tent) in April weather, he offered us a place to stay. So we went for a lovely walk along the coast, followed by a Swedish course with Frederik the apprentice; we are mostly struggling with the difficult Swedish pronunciation, and a funny mix-up. Across the roofs, we had spotted a church that looked interesting and were making our way there to visit. As we turned the last corner, a giant truck with an ‘Absolut Vodka’ advert rolled towards us and disappointingly we realised that what we had taken for a church, was really a vodka manufacturers!
