The combination of Amsterdam and sunshine was super. On the second day, we went straight to the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and were even allowed to make glass at the furnace. After this hadn’t been possible in Leerdam, it was great to be working again.

We spent time in the town and met with people we know. We also visited our friend Hans van Bentem, who we had met at the International Glass Symposium in the Czech Republic. He lives right next to his own artwork, in the centre of Amsterdam, in a block of flats whose façade he designed. The design consists of 3D mirror-like pieces, which are incorporated in the centre of the façade and can be illuminated at night. It’s very impressive.

On Wednesday we headed to Rotterdam. We realised the place where we chose to stand for hitchhiking was a bit daft, as it was right next to the traffic lights at the entrance to the motorway. However, we had a bit of luck when the first car stopped and we jumped in. We got out in the centre of Rotterdam, and even though our driver had been on the way to Belgium, he had really kindly made a detour into the centre for us. The next few days in Rotterdam we spent at the ART FAIR, as Hans had given us free entrance tickets.
