With a temperature of over 40°C in the studio, it was full steam ahead to the finish line.

We were all ready for a break over Christmas and after the third party, while still working from 8am-9pm, the bags under our eyes were getting bigger. Just to able to have a lie in would really help. This wish came true on Thursday.

However everyone had to meet deadlines for Christmas business and so we were busy working on the last jobs. In all this activity we got ourselves muddled up and Louise had unfortunately promised to assist two crews at the same time. After a quick snooze (in order to fight the heat) she was there ready in the studio, while Franca took over the second job. We had our reward on Tuesday afternoon when we were allowed to make our own pieces, and get creative by the kiln. Wednesday was the hottest day of the week, with the temperature reaching 39°C in the shade. We spent most of the day indoors in front of the computer to organise our next stop: India. On Thursday, Emma took us to Tim Shaw, whose studio is in the mountains above Adelaide. It’s small but well thought through, from the hand-built construction that allows him to open the drum door on his own, to a machine with which he presses long leaves of glass. Tim prefers to make pieces that are big and heavy with surface structure that he cuts with a diamond cutter.

Yesterday, Pi took us out for a pleasant Sunday trip to the seaside. She showed us the beautiful coast south of Adelaide and her parents’ house in the mountains with a view of the sea. Louise had prepared tasty sandwiches for the trip, which we ate in a café. For an after dinner treat, we jumped into the waves and played Frisbee on the beach.

Today we have to pack up our rucksacks, as early tomorrow morning we are off to India. The plan for Christmas on the plane is: get out the paper Christmas tree, put on the tin foil baubles and scatter some presents around. We’ll exchange presents and celebrate up in the air, ‘with the angels’, as Louise’s grandparents fittingly remarked.

We want to wish all our faithful readers, friends, and our loved ones at home a very merry Christmas and a fun celebration!
