The girls are going their separate ways again. Louise has a job with Peter Kuchinke and is going with him to Berlin tomorrow, where she is going to help him finish a large commission. Franca is still in Skagen where she works every day with Jonas. Making glass seven days non-stop is quite something else; the Danes don’t even close their shops at the weekend. That’s why we get up every day at 8am, cycle to work, where we stay until 5.30pm, afterwards enjoy a windy walk along the sea, make dinner and go to bed again. Working with Jonas is actually really great as he enjoys making glass at a steady pace and yet, still finds time for coffee breaks. It’s not easy to assist every day, hour upon hour when everything has to be perfect. It’s not on, that the glass I bring to Jonas has a different temperature every time. That’s why I have to concentrate really hard. It’s a different way of working together than back at school where you factor in the assistants’ mistakes, because none of us were perfect. So we are doing our best in order to hear from Jonas, ‘That was a good one!’

Just around the corner here in Skagen, there is a lovely little Sweet Shop (Bolcheriet), which we often cycle past and test out their freshly made sweets. If you’re in luck and you get there during the day, you can watch them making the sweets. Here in Denmark, it seems really important to people that you can see how a product is made. That’s why crafts people are more often opening up their studios to sell their products right there.
