Sunday evening, blogging time in Hong Kong!

After we had booked our flights to Japan, we got working on planning our time there. On a big map of Japan, which Louise had drawn on the back of a cornflakes box, we marked every glass museum and studio that we could find from the internet. When we weren’t sitting in front of the computer until 2am, researching, emailing, or watching German films on YouTube, we went to bed earlier and got up earlier to make glass.

Things were running quite smoothly for us on Wednesday, when we were allowed to use the furnace for three hours. Our plan was to produce a simple bottle shape, but to assemble the neck and body of the bottle only at the end as the last stage. Louise wanted to insert a ring of crystal glass between the neck and body, however Franca didn’t. So we set out to work together on both variations of the idea. Louise blew the neck, while Franca blew the body and we joined the pieces while they were still hot and were quite happy with the results.

On Saturday, as we were making our way back home on the tram, we met a funny, crazy guy called Wang. He draws a weekly political cartoon for a Hong Kong newspaper. He invited us for a Coke and showed us many of his drawings. Both of us had never spent so much time before intensively studying a political cartoon, as you tend to glance over them in the paper. However Wang insisted that we pay attention to every detail. As we left he gave both of us one of his t-shirts with a funny picture of the crammed living conditions in Hong Kong.
